Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema, is a long-term lung disease that makes it hard to breathe. The disease affects millions of Americans and is a leading cause of disability and death in the U.S. The good news is COPD is often preventable and treatable. Here you’ll find information, resources and tools to help you understand COPD, manage treatment and lifestyle changes, find support and take action.

Asthma

Treatment for asthma may include medications – the most common of which are inhaled steroids and bronchodilators – as well as strategies to avoid asthma triggers. Any coexisting medical conditions will also need to be assessed and treated, as they may have an impact on asthma symptoms.

Diabetes

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease that causes high blood sugar. Your body either doesn’t make enough insulin or can’t effectively use the insulin it makes. The hormone insulin moves sugar from the blood into your cells to be stored or used for energy. If this malfunctions, you may have diabetes. Untreated high blood sugar from diabetes can damage your nerves, eyes, kidneys, and other organs. But educating yourself about diabetes and taking steps to prevent or manage it can help you protect your health.

Hypertension

If you have hypertension, lifestyle changes with or without medications can help you reduce your blood pressure into a healthier range (below 130/80 mm Hg). Your exact therapy plan, and whether or not you need medication, depends on your starting blood pressure readings. Your goal will also depend on your other risk factors.

Child Health

Childhood. What a tender precious season in life. If you’re reading this and you are a parent or caregiver, well done and good work! It is no small feat to raise a child with all the challenges that the twenty-first century can throw at an infant, child or adolescent nowadays in a busy, post-pandemic world – physically, mentally, socially and emotionally. The doctors at Dural Family Medical Practice are experienced at, and love treating children, adolescents, infants and newborns alike. Some of the doctors at our medical centre in Dural have undertaken additional training in paediatrics and children’s health, having completed Diplomas in Child Health (DCH).

Micro Suctioning Of Ear Canals

For most people, ear wax simply falls out by itself but, in some cases, it fails to do so and can be a real problem. When this happens, it can build up and can start to cause hearing loss, or tinnitus (a ringing in the ears). There are simple remedies that can be tried at home to remove excess ear wax, but these don’t always work, or can be dangerous to your hearing and ear canal. When this is the case, you may consider other options, such as microsuction ear wax removal by a professional audiologist, which is very quick and effective at removing any excess wax that is causing blockages.
